Smart Tempered Glass

We Partnered with Anderson Glass, to create three glass shields, to protect the City of Hewitt Utility workers and customers from COVID-19.  The shield does not hinder customers and workers seeing and talking to each other, but does protect from getting sneezed or coughed on. With a combined 43.06 square foot of Polyvision® Smart Tempered Glass, only 1 power supply was essential. Partitions are seemingly everywhere these days, as they are recommended by the CDC and the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA).

What is Tempered Glass?

Tempered, also known as toughened glass is a type of safety glass that has been strength thru thermal or chemical treatments. Tempering shifts the outer surfaces into compression, while the interior into tension. Tempered Glass is used for its safety and strength in applications you see every day; passenger vehicle windows, shower doors, aquariums, refrigerator trays, mobile phone screen protectors, plates an even cookware.

Why not use Annealed Glass?

Tempered Glass is around four times stronger than annealed glass. Annealed glass has almost no internal stress and usually forms microscopic cracks on its surface. Compressive surface stresses give tempered glass increased strength.

Tempered Glass + Smart Glass = Winning Team

Polyvision® Smart Tempered Glass transitions from transparency to serene privacy with a flip of a switch. When electricity is applied, a low-voltage current transitions the Polyvision interlayer from a gentle opaque to see-through clarity, and with a flip of a switch, in milliseconds, the glass becomes an opaque screen, providing discreet privacy.
