Polyvision® Switchable Privacy Glass Demonstrated in the Museum and Conference Room of the Taiwan High Speed Rail Museum
During its 10th anniversary celebration this past January, the completion of the “Taiwan High-Speed Rail Exploration Hall” was unveiled, which showcased Polyvision® Switchable Privacy Glass. The Taiwan High Speed Rail Museum is located in Zhongli District, Taoyuan City, Taiwan, and opened to the public January 6, 2017.
The history of the High Speed Rail was projected onto our Polyvision® Switchable Privacy Glass, which can be activated by the touch panel sensor. Our Polyvision® Switchable Privacy Film and Switchable Privacy Glass is an opaque white smart film, laminated between glass, that can be changed, instantly, into a clear glass window. The liquid crystals in the Privacy Film are closer to a liquid state than a gas or solid state. It takes enormous amounts of heat to change a solid to a liquid, but it only takes a little heat to turn liquid crystal into a real liquid. This explains why liquid crystals are very sensitive to temperature and why they are used to make things like laptop screens and our own Switchable Privacy Film!
When we apply voltage to the liquid crystals in the film, they change position. When they make this adjustment, they change the angle of the light passing through them to become transparent. When the voltage is removed, no light can pass through that area of the LCD, which makes opaque.
When the Switchable Privacy Glass is opaque, it can act as a projector screen, allowing users to display any number of visual applications directly onto the glass enclosed area. LCD projectors work by letting polarized light in red, blue, and green, to travel through a pane of glass into the liquid crystal inside the display – in this case, onto the Switchable Privacy Glass smart film.

Polyvision® windows, skylights, and glazed doors can be switched to translucent mode at peak hours of sunlight to cut light levels roughly in half and scatter the light, providing a diffused source that illuminates more of the room with less glare.
